Every 20 years, as part of the Shikinen Sengu ritual, the shrine and its surrounding forests are renewed. During this cycle, selected trees are thinned for ecological balance—each one holding decades or centuries of sacred life. From this extraordinary material, we set out to do what had never been done: to extract essential oil from the sacred hinoki cypress of JINGU.
We approached this process with the utmost reverence, treating each tree not as raw material, but as a carrier of memory, spirit, and prayer. After countless trials, we succeeded in producing a pure, rare essential oil—a crystallization of the forest’s breath. It is the world’s first aroma product made from JINGU’s hinoki.
